EXPANDING ACCESS TO SPAY & NEUTER CARE IN RURAL COMMUNITIES
February 2nd, 2026
Across rural communities, veterinary teams face a familiar challenge: the need for more space, better workflow, and reliable infrastructure to support spay and neuter programs—especially for stray and underserved animal populations. Limited facilities means restricting the number of animals that can be treated in a day, slowing progress on population control and putting added strain on already stretched clinics.
To help meet this need, Clinic In A Can developed a 40-foot Veterinary Clinic designed specifically to expand capacity for rural and mobile veterinary operations—without requiring traditional construction.
Housed entirely within a single 40-foot shipping container, this veterinary clinic provides clearly defined, purpose-built spaces that support efficient, humane, and high-volume care:
Holding & Recovery Room – A dedicated area for pre-op holding and post-op recovery, allowing animals to be monitored safely and comfortably.
Treatment & Prep Room – Designed for exams, anesthesia prep, and workflow organization, helping teams move smoothly from intake to surgery.
Surgery Room – A clean, controlled operating environment equipped for spay and neuter procedures and other surgical needs.
By separating functions into distinct rooms, the clinic supports infection control, improves staff efficiency, and creates a calmer environment for both animals and veterinary professionals.
Designed With Veterinary Expertise
This clinic was developed in close collaboration with a member of UC Davis Koret School of Veterinary Medicine’s team, ensuring the layout, workflow, and equipment selection align with real-world veterinary best practices. Every decision—from room sizing to windows—was made to ensure a comfortable and successful work environment.
The result is a space that feels familiar and intuitive to veterinary teams, even though it’s containerized.

Built for Rural & Underserved Areas
Rural clinics and outreach programs often serve wide geographic regions with limited access to veterinary infrastructure. This 40-foot Veterinary Clinic is designed to meet those realities:
Provides immediate additional capacity
Can be deployed to expand an existing facility
Supports high-volume spay/neuter efforts critical to managing stray populations
Built within a durable shipping container for transport, security, and longevity
Whether stationed long-term or deployed where the need is greatest, this clinic enables veterinary teams to reach more animals, more efficiently.
Years in the Making—Built to Last
This project has been several years in development, shaped by feedback, collaboration, and refinement. The final result is a veterinary clinic that balances durability, thoughtful design, and practical functionality—one that truly supports the work being done on the ground.
We’re incredibly proud of how this clinic turned out and of the partnerships that helped bring it to life. Most importantly, we’re proud of the role it plays in supporting veterinarians who are working every day to improve animal health and reduce stray populations in their communities.
