BEL AIRE, Kan. – In a collaborative effort to bring essential healthcare services to those in need, a coalition of U.S.-based non-profit and for-profit organizations has come together to make a significant impact in Costa Rica. This donation was inspired by the urgent need for more space and medical supplies at Los Chiles Hospital, a facility that has become a beacon of hope for people passing through the country in search of a better life.

The need for this project became clear after CCSS (Caja Costarricense De Seguro Social) Representative Dr. Milton Salazar shared the challenges faced by the hospital. With an influx of patients requiring urgent care, the hospital staff has gone above and beyond to provide medical services, embodying the spirit of the Good Samaritan. However, the increasing demand for care called for additional resources and infrastructure.

In response to this pressing need, Hospitals of Hope, an NGO based in Wichita, Kansas, sponsored the purchase and donation of a Clinic In A Can Primary Care Unit. Our turn-key, containerized medical clinic was packed with durable medical supplies provided by U.S. Southern Command, hygiene kits donated by Heart to Heart International, and shelter equipment from Deployed Logix. The U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica, in collaboration with the CCSS, played a crucial role in ensuring the safe delivery and setup of this vital donation.

This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and the shared commitment to relieving human suffering. By coming together, these organizations have provided much-needed assistance to the Los Chiles Hospital staff and their patients, ensuring that healthcare is accessible to all, regardless of background, color, or nationality. The Clinic In A Can unit will serve as a valuable resource for the hospital, helping to meet the healthcare needs of those who have nowhere else to turn.
