Dr. Bruce Wayne Thomas

Dr. Thomas was Board Certified in General Surgery and Critical Care, a Diplomate of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He served on the trauma committee and was a proud member of Kansas Surgical Consultants.

Besides Bruce’s incredible mind he also had MacGyver “can fix anything” abilities as a surgeon.   He served patients for almost 30 years at both Wesley Medical Center and Via Christi Ascension hospital as a general surgeon, trauma surgeon and critical care intensivist. Though he was a talented and successful surgeon, he lived a modest life, focused on helping others.

His generosity was second nature. Bruce traveled to both Rwanda and the Dominican Republic offering his skills as a surgeon to those in need.   Throughout the years, his generous contributions were used to help build a hospital in Bolivia, support the surgical residency program in Gabon West Africa, and sponsor a future doctor.

Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis until funds are fully allocated.
